Just for Girls

Abbotsford Youth Commission

Just For Girls is a group that has been designed around grade 7 girls’ needs. This is a program where girls can interact with their peers and talk about issues affecting them. Some of the topics to be discussed are body image, role models, bullying, internet safety, conflicts with friends, and more. Just For Girls runs at local elementary and middle schools during lunch hour. Contact the AYC to see if it is offered in your school.

Program Information

Just for Girls is a psycho-educational program for grade seven girls which is facilitated in the school environment by practicum students from several different faculties of study at the University of the Fraser Valley including: Nursing, Criminology, Child and Youth Care, and Social Work. The objective of the program is to prevent harmful emotional and behavioral issues such as low self-esteem, eating disorders and abuse.

The Just for Girls program is facilitated with staff and practicum students combined. We now focus the first two weeks of the program on making things super fun along with ensuring we are calling the parents of all interested youth.
