Basketball - Abby Night Hoops

Abbotsford Youth Commission

Join us for Abby Night Hoops, our FREE Drop-in Basketball program for youth ages 12 - 18 every Wednesday evening. We've partnered with Abbotsford Basketball for this program. All skill levels are welcome and make sure to bring a friend.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Fraser Valley

Serving as role models, our volunteer mentors act as an extra social support, helping increase a child's self- esteem. Mentors teach by example the importance of giving and giving back, of staying in school, and for having respect for family, peers and community. We pair children and youth with a 1-on-1 mentor and run group mentoring programs built around positive self-image, healthy living, and an active lifestyle.

Central Abbotsford Community School Society

The Central Abbotsford Community School Society is a group of schools in the Central Abbotsford area that have been converted into community schools. As a society, we work with each school to utilize the facility when it is not being used for educational purposes to provide recreational and educational opportunities for the community.

Dinner Nights

Each month we will be host two FREE dinner nights, one at ARC and one at MRC. Youth can come and help prep and cook the entire meal. These dinner nights are made possible by a grant from the Abbotsford Community Foundation.

Girls Night

Abbotsford Youth Commission

This program encourages girls to get active in a fun and supportive atmosphere. During each week of the eight sessions, girls will try various activities at different locations around Abbotsford. Activities may include rock climbing, dance, martial arts, yoga, and more. Financial assistance may be available for this program.

Guys Alive

Abbotsford Youth Commission

Guys Alive is an eight week program for grade 7 boys that runs at local elementary and middle schools during the lunch hour. The program aims to educate boys on peer pressure, bullying, friendships, healthy living, and teamwork through games and activities. Contact the AYC to see if it is offered in your school.

The AYC has designed a program that allows ‘the guys’ to get together and have a super fun evening. The group will meet at various locations around Abbotsford for activities such as rock climbing, golfing, kickboxing, and more. Financial assistance may be available for this program.

Just For Girls is a group that has been designed around grade 7 girls’ needs. This is a program where girls can interact with their peers and talk about issues affecting them. Some of the topics to be discussed are body image, role models, bullying, internet safety, conflicts with friends, and more. Just For Girls runs at local elementary and middle schools during lunch hour. Contact the AYC to see if it is offered in your school.

LEAD

Abbotsford Youth Commission

LEAD is a newly designed program that teaches youth about leadership, team building, communication, and special events planning skills. Youth will have the opportunity to participate in community events, build their network, and earn volunteer hours towards their graduation. This program will build self-confidence, develop life skills, and act as a stepping stone for our Youth Council Program.

Youth Council is a high level leadership program for youth in grades 10-12. Youth Council brings together young people from all of the local high schools to discuss pertinent youth issues, get involved in local projects and participate in community and city committees. This is serious stuff, but Youth Council is also a place where young people will form life-long friendships and have a super fun time in the process.
